We all know who Paris Hilton is, the grand daughter of billionaire Mr. Hilton. Paris Hilton didn’t get her fame until a sex tape leaked out of her with her boyfriend at the time. Now, normal people would not have gotten as much attention about something like this, but this was not your normal citizen, this was a Hilton.
Years fly by and Paris Hilton has now received a lot of attention with her lavish parties, including a lot of alcohol and drugs. Then one night, Paris’s life took a turn for the worst, she was arrested for DUI while under probation from a previous DUI a few months before this one. Paris was sentenced to 45 days in a county jail.
Paris Hilton’s mother, Kathy quoted saying that this ruling was pathetic and a waste of tax payers money. Paris told reporters hours before at the MTV Music Awards that, she was definitely scared, but was ready to face her sentence.
Through out this whole ordeal, you can definetely see that Paris Hilton, not her publicist did a lot of the talking and answering. Paris was quoted saying, “Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that’s really helpful,” and also told reporters that, “I’m using it in a positive way and when I come out, I can’t wait to start my new life and be even stronger than I am now.” Paris went and talked to the media about how she was feeling and not her publicist, very brave move.
The news has strictly listed out all the facts of what has lead to Paris Hilton going to jail. They all had quotes from Paris Hilton herself or from someon in the immediate family member or her attorney. The incident in the news is being framed really well. There was no negative remarks quoted about Paris, there were however positive remarks quoted from Paris Hilton.
When it comes to blogs, a lot of them are kind of making fun of the whole issue. Since it is a blog and the whole being professional does not quite apply to them. Bloggers are making fun of how Paris Hilton is in jail one day and then out the next but back in the next day. Rumors are spreading that Paris didn’t even spend all 45 days there but that she only spent 5 days in jail! Bloggers also tend to get more of the public opinion and will give more of their opinions on why they think she should be in jail and how they can not believe she got out this early.
The main difference in the Paris Hilton story between the main stream media and the blogs are that, the main stream media is more professional. The MSM is really based all on facts that have been collected and interviews of Paris, her familt and her lawyer. Blogs on the other hand have a few jokes and are making fun of her. While they have facts that are accurate they also state their own opinions on the matter.
I think Paris Hilton was her own publicist in this situation. In a lot of the news articles you can see quotes from Paris talking about how she views this prison sentence as a positive step in her life and how it was a wake up call and a reality check. I think that as she stood infront of the media and explained her feelings and concerns about going to jail I think that maybe gave some viewers some sympathy for her. I think that if it was just her publicist handeling all of this, then it would not of had the same effect. The only thing different I would of done was to serve all 45 days of my term, especially when I talked about how going to jail was a positive step for me.
