Patrick Swayze A OK

April 11, 2008 by ravioli985

Unfortunately about 2 weeks ago, Patrick Swayzewas diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Swayze and his doctor have recently confirmed that the treatment Swayze is taking is working and the treatment is “excellent.”

It is always good for people to see other people who are fighting cancer in front of the public eye.  It gives hope to those who are suffering from cancer and it gives them the determination to fight it and not to give up.

I think this will be a great thing for Swayze to take even further, like Lance Armstrong did.  He can start to travel and talk about his life after he was diagnosed with cancer.  Swayze will reach a different target audience then Lance Armstrong, he will attract older people his age.

I’m glad everything worked out well for him.  I hope he shares his stories with others so that he can spread the hope of fighting cancer to others.

Good evening everyone!

Peace,

Ravi

The Pregnant Man

April 5, 2008 by ravioli985

Thomas Beatie looks just like any other man that’s 34 and happily married, except the fact that he is pregnant! Beatie a lesbian inclined woman who underwent transsexual surgery that altered her breasts, and, decided not to remove her reproductive organs

Thomas is a transgender male and is the first pregnant man ever but she still lacks the one thing that REALLY makes her a man and that the Y chromosome.

Many people are kind of grossed out by the thought of it, big supporters of Thomas and many do not see this as being news worthy because he is technically still a woman.  Many people are saying that if he was the first real man to have a baby (someone with a Y chromosome) then that would be news worthy.

Thomas was quoted saying, “That being pregnant didn’t make her feel less of a man, and that the moral of her story is that, wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.”  However, this is bringing a lot of controversial issues.  Children who are hearing of the story are beggining to ask their teachers “how a man can get pregnant?”

Thomas is also going to appear on Oprah and have an exclusive interview with People Magazine.  Could this be the start of a new trend for transgender’s around the world?

Obama’s Minister

March 29, 2008 by ravioli985

Reverand Jeremiah Wright Jr., has created huge concerns for democratic president Barack Obama.  Rev. Wright, who was a pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

Rev. Wright was quoted saying, “We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York, and we never batted an eye.  We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is brought right back in our own front yards.”

Rev. Wright then later goes onto say, “No, no, no, not God bless America — God damn America!”  Many Americans are starting to say that Obama’s close tie with Rev. Wright and the 17 years he has known him could effect his views as president.  A lot of people are worried and think that because he has been going and listining to his pastor, that he believes in what Rev. Wright has to say.

Another issue that this raises is the fact that if Obama wins the primaries and when he starts to run againt McCain that the president race will turn into a battle between race.  In other words, there will be a lot of hate remarks from both ends of the party causing the tension and the hate between Americans to grow.

Paris Hilton’s Crisis

March 21, 2008 by ravioli985

We all know who Paris Hilton is, the grand daughter of billionaire Mr. Hilton.  Paris Hilton didn’t get her fame until a sex tape leaked out of her with her boyfriend at the time.  Now, normal people would not have gotten as much attention about something like this, but this was not your normal citizen, this was a Hilton.

Years fly by and Paris Hilton has now received a lot of attention with her lavish parties, including a lot of alcohol and drugs.  Then one night, Paris’s life took a turn for the worst, she was arrested for DUI while under probation from a previous DUI a few months before this one.  Paris was sentenced to 45 days in a county jail.

Paris Hilton’s mother, Kathy quoted saying that this ruling was pathetic and a waste of tax payers money.  Paris told reporters hours before at the MTV Music Awards that, she was definitely scared, but was ready to face her sentence.

Through out this whole ordeal, you can definetely see that Paris Hilton, not her publicist did a lot of the talking and answering. Paris was quoted saying,  “Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that’s really helpful,” and also told reporters that, “I’m using it in a positive way and when I come out, I can’t wait to start my new life and be even stronger than I am now.”  Paris went and talked to the media about how she was feeling and not her publicist, very brave move.

The news has strictly listed out all the facts of what has lead to Paris Hilton going to jail.  They all had quotes from Paris Hilton herself or from someon in the immediate family member or her attorney.  The incident in the news is being framed really well.  There was no negative remarks quoted about Paris, there were however positive remarks quoted from Paris Hilton.

When it comes to blogs, a lot of them are kind of making fun of the whole issue.  Since it is a blog and the whole being professional does not quite apply to them.  Bloggers are making fun of how Paris Hilton is in jail one day and then out the next but back in the next day.  Rumors are spreading that Paris didn’t even spend all 45 days there but that she only spent 5 days in jail! Bloggers also tend to get more of the public opinion and will give more of their opinions on why they think she should be in jail and how they can not believe she got out this early.

The main difference in the Paris Hilton story between the main stream media and the blogs are that, the main stream media is more professional.  The MSM is really based all on facts that have been collected and interviews of Paris, her familt and her lawyer.  Blogs on the other hand have a few jokes and are making fun of her.  While they have facts that are accurate they also state their own opinions on the matter.

I think Paris Hilton was her own publicist in this situation.  In a lot of the news articles you can see quotes from Paris talking about how she views this prison sentence as a positive step in her life and how it was a wake up call and a reality check.  I think that as she stood infront of the media and explained her feelings and concerns about going to jail I think that maybe gave some viewers some sympathy for her.  I think that if it was just her publicist handeling all of this, then it would not of had the same effect.  The only thing different I would of done was to serve all 45 days of my term, especially when I talked about how going to jail was a positive step for me.

Obama is a hooper!

March 1, 2008 by ravioli985

I thought this article I was reading on Barack Obama was really interesting.  It was an article talking about how Senator Obama enjoys playing basketball.

It was really cool to read an article about Senator Obama outside the usual state we are used to seeing him.  You know, wearing a suit and tie with a microphone and a lot of cameras.  I think it is good to show that the people running for president are human just like all of us and enjoy doing things such as playing basketball just like you and me.

In conclusion, I just MIGHT have a shot at one day being president!

 Peace.

Lindsey L.

February 25, 2008 by ravioli985

Are you wondering where Lindsey Lohan has been other than rehab? GREAT question!  Lindsay has done absolutely NOTHING, yet I keep seeing her and her nude body on the cover of magazines! So you may be thinking that if she is on the cover of these magazines then she must be getting ready to promote something.  Besides her lack of upcoming films/movies Lindsey has been gracing the cover of many magazines and most recently posing nude.  To me it looks like Lindsey has yet another addiction, except this time it is to fame.  Let us not forget about Lindsey’s new awards, The Razzie Award for worst actess!

And on a good note, I was on Fox 7 Saturday night.

“Yes we can”

February 15, 2008 by ravioli985

So, I’m sure a lot of you have seen the “yes we can” video.  It was created by Will I Am from the Black Eyed Peas promoting individuals to vote by using a speech by Barack Obama who talks about the importance of voting.  It does not directly ever tell you to vote for Barack Obama, but I think it is implied based on the fact that the video does not use any of the other presidential candidates and their speeches on the urge for individuals to vote.

If you ask me, I think the video was brilliantly made and very creative for free advertisement. As of now, 11:44PM on February 14 the video has received almost 4 million votes! I personally can’t say exactly who I will be voting for in the primaries just yet, until I finish hearing all the speeches and more research. I feel that both candidates are great and they both have there pros and cons.  However, I feel that this video, because it uses celebrities will make a lot of potential volunteers vote for Obama just because of this video, without ever really knowing what he stands by as a president.

The reason I am writing about this video is because today on my bus ride home I over heard 2 students talking about how they were going to vote for Obama JUST because they saw the video and fell in love with it.  Which if they want to do that, then that is fine, but I hope that is not the general view of a lot of Americans. Like I said, both Hillary and Obama are strong candidates and for me it will come down to the wire.

Peace out,

Celebrity & Drugs

February 10, 2008 by ravioli985

I wasn’t really sure what to write about and this being my first entertainment blog and first blog overall, I wanted to start with a little bit broader subject.

I was reading Perezhilton for the first time, I went through 4 pages and in each page I  saw at least one mention of a celebrity and their use of drugs or their return to rehab.  Don’t get me wrong, I know there are millions of Americans who are doing drugs and probably not even taking the time to go through rehab, but a big reason for that could be because they don’t have the money to go to rehab.

My first thoughts are why are these celebrities getting into drugs when they have the world at their finger tips?  If they could see that the situation they are in (being celebrities) was something that millions and millions of people around the world want to be then maybe they would clean up their act and send out a more positive role.  Lets face it, the media is going to focus a little more on a celebrity doing drugs and driving under the influence then a celebrity going out and cleaning up a community.  After thinking about this some more, I started to think that well maybe they just weren’t really educated on things going on in the real world.  For example, I went to visit India after my freshman year of college and when I saw all the poverty and corruption in India, I was so thankful that my Dad went 10,000 miles away from his family to come to America to study so that he could live and raise a family in America.  This was a starting point of when I really realized how fortunate I was.  When I came back as a sophomore I got involved in volunteering in Austin, and after drifting out of this “UT Bubble” I had kept myself in my freshman year, I saw how fortunate I was just being able to attend college and the opportunities that would bring me.  I later found that less than 35% of Americans graduate from college. That is unbelievable, and I’m thankful for everything and I will always work my hardest in everything I do.  I wasn’t trying to tell that story because I wanted to talk about myself, I just think that if these celebrity’s who are getting into drugs could see that a VERY SMALL percentage of people hit the celebrity status, then maybe they wouldn’t take their jobs so lightly.
